Client: A utility company wanted to deploy smart energy meters to monitor electricity
consumption in real-time.

What we did
We designed and developed firmware for ESP32 and STM32 microcontrollers to monitor real-time electricity consumption. The firmware reads energy data from sensors, processes it, and sends it to the cloud via MQTT over Wi-Fi. To ensure long battery life, we implemented low-power modes that optimize energy efficiency.
Since the project was handled remotely, we tested the firmware using the virtual hardware simulator Proteus, allowing us to validate performance without needing physical devices. For debugging, we used cloud-based tools like VS Code Live Share, enabling real-time collaboration with the client’s engineers.
Once tested, the system was integrated with AWS IoT and Google Cloud IoT, providing a real-time dashboard for energy monitoring, analytics, and alerts. Additionally, we implemented secure Over-the-Air (OTA) firmware updates, allowing the client to update and maintain their smart meters remotely.
Through online collaboration, remote testing, and cloud-based debugging, Leafnest Engineering delivered a fully functional, scalable, and efficient smart energy metering system.

What we did
We developed a custom secure bootloader for the client’s wearable health monitoring device, ensuring secure firmware updates and protection against unauthorized modifications. We implemented secure firmware signing using Arm Trusted Firmware (ATF), allowing only verified updates to be installed on the device.
To optimize security, we enabled dual-bank firmware updates, ensuring that if an update fails, the device can safely revert to the previous version. The entire development process was completed remotely using QEMU-based emulation and cloud debugging tools.
For seamless deployment, we provided detailed integration documentation and worked closely with the client’s team through online meetings and remote debugging sessions, ensuring smooth implementation. With this solution, the client’s wearable device now supports secure and reliable firmware updates, enhancing both user safety and regulatory compliance.


Remote PCB Design & Firmware for an IoT Smart Plug
Client: A consumer electronics startup wants to launch a Wi-Fi-enabled
smart plug that can be controlled via an app.
What we did
We successfully developed a Wi-Fi-enabled smart plug for a consumer electronics startup. We Used Altium Designer and designed the PCB, ensuring compact size and efficient power management. The firmware, developed for an ESP32 microcontroller enabled seamless app-based control, real-time power monitoring, and voice assistant integration with Google Assistant. To optimize performance, we implemented secure MQTT communication for cloud connectivity and OTA (Over-the-Air) updates for remote firmware upgrades. Our team tested everything using virtual hardware simulators and cloud-based debugging tools, ensuring a fully functional and reliable design without needing physical prototypes. The final design was delivered with ready-to-manufacture PCB files, firmware, and cloud integration guidelines, allowing the client to proceed directly with production.

Client: A client in the agriculture technology sector required a low-power IoT-based sensor node that can monitor soil moisture, temperature, humidity, and light levels for precision farming. What we did
We developed a low-power IoT-based sensor node for the client’s precision farming needs. Our team designed a custom PCB using Altium Designer and selected an ESP32 microcontroller for efficient data processing and wireless communication. We integrated soil moisture, temperature, humidity, and light sensors, ensuring accurate environmental monitoring.
Using virtual testing tools like Proteus, we rigorously tested the firmware and hardware designs before finalizing the system.
